UFC president Dana White expects a lightweight unification bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje to be staged on “Battle Island” next month.
Gaethje turned his consideration to a showdown with undisputed winner Nurmagomedov after beating Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 final weekend to take the interim title.
Nurmagomedov was thanks to battle Ferguson in Brooklyn, N.Y., final month, but that struggle could not go ahead due to the fact of the coronavirus pandemic, which has still left the Russian caught in Dagestan. Gaethje grasped his possibility to replace Nurmagomedov and will now get his shot at the undefeated champ.

White said the location that has been christened “Battle Island” — a secret location off the coastline of the United States — remains below building but really should be prepared for the pair to lock horns by the conclude of June.
He told ESPN Radio Chicago: “I do not know if it will be the very first 1, but it will be on ‘Fight Island,’ except if miraculously the entire world will come back collectively quicker than I feel it can be gonna.”
White additional: “Hopefully [‘Fight Island’] will be completed by mid-June, and I could place on a battle that weekend that it can be completed, or conclude of June.”
Conor McGregor referred to as out Gaethje with a social media rant Monday, but White said the Irishman will have to wait.

“Any time Conor McGregor is battling, it can be thrilling, but yeah, I am quite enthusiastic for Gaethje vs. Khabib,” White said. “I feel stylistically it can be a terrific matchup. I am on the lookout forward to it.”
