COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Jim Jones, a former tutorial assistant to soccer coaching fantastic Woody Hayes who went on to provide as Ohio Point out athletic director in the 1980s and ’90s, has died. He was 83.

Jones died Wednesday in Bonita Springs, Florida, of natural triggers, the university reported.

Jones commenced at Ohio Point out as a physical education and learning teacher in 1965 and moved to the athletic division in 1967. He served as tutorial adviser, generally to the soccer team. for 4 yrs and normally was referred to by Hayes as the team’s ”brain mentor.” He then moved to athletic division administration and was athletic director from 1987 until his retirement in 1994.

”He had a dedication to variety and made a remarkable contribution to the development of Ohio Point out athletics,” current athletic director Gene Smith reported.

Jones was a past president of the national athletic directors association and served on many national committees at the Large Ten Conference and national levels, which includes the NCAA’s exclusive situations and post-time bowls committees, the Large Ten promotions and PR committee, and the Rose Bowl management committee.
