Global Hockey Federation (FIH) President Narinder Batra on Sunday backtracked on his assertion that his tenure is established for extension thanks to the postponement of FIH elections to 2021, indicating that the polls “as of now” will go forward in October this calendar year. In the course of the Particular Normal Overall body Conference of Athletics Federation of India held online on Saturday, Batra, also the head of the Indian Olympic Association and a member of the Global Olympic Committee, experienced said that his tenure as FIH chief will be prolonged as the elections have been postponed in perspective of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As of now, the FIH elections will be held in October this calendar year, there is no alter in that,” Batra instructed PTI.
On Saturday, throughout a dialogue on the date of AFI elections, thanks to be held final month but postponed thanks to the pandemic, Batra experienced said that the FIH elections have been postponed.
“FIH elections ended up to be held in October this calendar year but now will be held in June future calendar year less than these conditions (of COVID-19 pandemic). So, I will be president till elections in June future calendar year,” Batra experienced said.
Batra was elected as FIH president in November 2016, becoming the 1st Indian to head the intercontinental federation of an Olympic sport.
The FIH, while responding to a PTI query, said that the body’s Government Board will go over the issue of suspending the FIH Congress, thanks to the uncertainty of the evolution of the world COVID-19 pandemic, on Might 8 via online video conference.
“The EB is predicted to validate new dates for the Congress throughout that assembly,” it mentioned.
